Weird and wonderful

zest This lovely artisan ice cream is crafted by James Oliver, who was trained by gelato makers in Italy before producing this range, which pairs traditional Italian techniques and New Zealand ingredients.

Zest believe in true flavours, their ice creams aren’t made with any pastes or bases, and they won no less than seven awards at the NZ Ice Cream awards 2008.

They do a range of gelatos, sorbets and ice creams in a variety of seasonal flavours to maximise on freshness, and sensible sourcing of produce. And the difference is really in these flavours. Some of the awards mentioned were won for Bacon & Egg Ice Cream, Hot Smoked Salmon Ice Cream, Mango Colada Sorbet, and Coconut, Lime & Mascarpone Ice Cream.

They are seriously well worth a try, and they come in little 120ml pots for the wee treat, or 750 tubs if you prefer to have it on hand.

We’ll definitely be surprising dinner guests with the salmon one sometime soon.
