La Cigale
Quintessentially French
La Cigale is at the bottom end of St Georges’ Bay Road in Parnell, Auckland. On Saturdays and Sundays it hosts a French Style farmers’ market, which consistently wins awards . It also sells fashion, antiques, soap and candles, kitchenware, wine, food and things French, 99% of their goods are sourced from France. La Cigale is a destination more than a store. They make and sell bread and pastry, their cheese cabinet is full of French cheese of a wide variety of types. The canned, bottled and dry goods are French and fabulous.
Until you’ve tried French confit of goose or duck, you won’t understand why they’re so passionate about their food. The sauces available at La Cigale are French and probably decadent. Certainly they’re indulgent.
Elizabeth and Mike Lind select new products on their trips to France every two or three months so expect the range to vary from time to time. The opened La Cigale twelve years ago because they were impressed by fine things French when travelling to France for their textile business. La Cigale offers a carnival of flavours and ingredients often unavailable elsewhere in Auckland.
Oh yes, they also run a French bistro three nights a week.
